You’re right. UENI is forcing a choice:

• Cards/blocks with images, but very little visible text and “Read more.”
• One long text block, which preserves the content but looks plain.

There isn’t a hidden setting we haven’t found that gives you a polished, image-rich biography with full text. We’ve tested enough layouts to know that.

So I’d stop trying to combine both.

Use the long text block

That is the better option for your About page because it:

• keeps your full story visible;
• requires no extra clicking;
• reads cleanly on mobile;
• won’t make visitors open five little cards;
• is easier for you to maintain.rrrrr
